Nelson Blue is one of my favorite gastropubs in FiDi – hubs and I have literally been coming here for years, as it is one of the few New Zealand restaurants in NYC (in fact I believe the only Kiwi one in Manhattan?). The restaurant suffered tremendous damages as a result of Hurricane Sandy, but thankfully is now making a comeback.
We took munchkin here for lunch after his swim classes on the weekend. It was a gorgeous day, and I highly recommend grabbing a seat outside if the weather allows, as you get to people-watch over the cobblestone streets of Peck Slip, and also enjoy the nice backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge over the sunny blue skies. Afterwards, if you have time, you should definitely head over to the Seaport and have a peak! Now only is there a fantastic playground there called the Imagination Playground, but there’re also a string of fun retail shops lined alongside Front street. Grab an ice cream cone by the dock, or better yet, a cup of Joe at Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee (222 Front Street) – after all, as we all know, you can never be too caffeinated when you’re chasing after munchkins!
